It’s been a while since I had joined my high school friends for a get-together. Either it’s too far, or I can’t leave, or some other reason. So when this reunion was set up, I took the chance while the kids are still on vacation.
B&B: Burgers and Brewskies is located at the Ground Floor of Estancia Mall in Pasig. It’s a relatively new mall, with lots of beautiful stores and not too many people. For a weekday night, there were quite a number of people in B&B, mostly people who had just come from the office.
Chicken wings are on a buy-one-take-one deal on Tuesdays and we made full use of that. You can choose different flavors for your wings. We had the salt and pepper, zesty barbecue and honey garlic. All of them were delicious! For Happy Hour, they had three drinks at 50% off – lychee martini, margarita and rum coke. I had their mojito and it was pretty good. Food and drinks were great!
The kids have been training in karate for a number of years. They both started in the sport when they were five years old. Over the years, we’ve made friends with the parents of the other kids who go to the same dojo. Even if we don’t see each other as often during the year because of differences in training schedules, we all get together at the AAK General Practice at the end of every summer. It is nice to see everyone again.
This afternoon, I had lunch with some of my friends from college – Annabell, Joel and Jason (Bong joined us later). We were classmates from INTARMED. Bong and I see Annabell occasionally. Joel, who is now based in Houston, comes over for a visit every 2 – 3 years. Jason dropped out from med school after 3rd year proper and I haven’t seen him since.
We had a wonderful time reminiscing about our years in college, remembering the terror teachers that we had, wondering whatever happened to some of our classmates, and generally looking back with fondness at our shared experiences. It is not very often that I get the chance to “just hang out” and I am glad that I did just that today. The food at Florabel’s was good and the company was great.
I enjoy taking care of my children full-time, but I also need to have some time away from them. Time when I can relax and not worry about the kids not eating and talking too much. Time when I can have an adult conversation not involving child care (the 3 of them are single). Time when I can actually enjoy my meal and relish every bite. After that, I can go back home to attend to my mommy duties.
