Trying Out Torch

We were in the Trinoma Mall over the weekend and we wanted to try a new restaurant. Torch Restaurant says their specialties are sushi, pizza and steak – and since we love all those, we decided to give it a try.

While waiting for our order, we were given this serving of fried crunchy noodles. It was a pleasant change from the usual.

The California Roll was okay, just like the ones you would have in any Japanese restaurant. The Softshell Crab Salad, though,  was a delight! I didn’t think the softshell crab would work with the greens and fruits, but it did! I just wish they put more dressing than they did.

The steak and eggs was generally okay too. The steak was tasty enough, but a little dry and on the tough side. We ordered it medium rare but was served rare, so you might want to adjust your order accordingly. It came with a glass of refreshing red iced tea. I love how their glass looks like it’s leaning to one side.

Of all the dishes we ordered that day, the Burger Mac and Cheese was the best! It was served in a skillet, the cheese topping nicely-browned and bubbling, with a sprinkling of bacon. We’ve ordered mac and cheese in different establishments and we think that this is one of the best versions around.

We wanted to try their desserts too but we were just so full already. We will definitely come back to try other items on their menu.

Breakfast at Ally’s All Day Breakfast

The kids had no school today but our son had to meet up with his classmates for a group project. So we decided to go for breakfast before we brought him there. I had been wanting to try some of the many restaurants in the Maginhawa area and this was an excellent time to do that. I chose Ally’s because they had more choices for breakfast. It was easy enough to find Ally’s as they had a very conspicuous sign outside. But parking was a bit of a problem. There were many “No Parking” signs along the street. The restaurant did not have their own parking space so you would have to compete for street parking with the customers of the numerous establishments in the area. Lucky for us, it was early in the day so we were able to park nearby. I can imagine how difficult it would be to find parking later on in the day.

The dining area is quite small. The tables and chairs are placed closely together to accommodate more diners. Outside dining is available too.

For breakfast, they offer a wide variety. They have rice meals, pancakes, waffles, French toast and omelettes. The kids chose to have the DIY pancakes, with bananas, Nutella and maple syrup.

My husband ordered the Vigan longganisa (he wanted to try the Lucban longganisa but was told it was unavailable)…

while I had the Dulce de Leche French toast and some bacon.

We all enjoyed our orders! We like the pancakes of Ally’s more than the ones from IHOP. They were fluffy and tasty and filling. The longganisa was good too. I loved the Dulce de Leche French toast! I had never tried French toast like that before. Maybe I’ll try to do it here at home one of these days. The bacon strips were well done, crispy and crunchy.

The food in Ally’s All Day Breakfast is reasonably priced and very affordable. I’d like to come back for more of their food.

Ngayon at Kailanman

There was a time when song lyrics were very poetic. I especially like the songs written by George Canseco, Willy Cruz, and Rey Valera. The love they wrote of was true and pure and beautiful. Of all the songs I’ve heard, my all-time favorite has got to be “Ngayon at Kailanman”, written by George Canseco and sung by Basil Valdez.

Ngayon at kailanman
Sumpa ko’y iibigin ka
Ngayon at kailanman
Hindi ka na mag-iisa
Ngayon at kailanman
Sa hirap o ginhawa pa
Asahan may kasama ka, sinta
Naroroon ako t’wina
Maaasahan mo t’wina
Ngayon at kailanman

Dahil kaya sa ‘yo
Na maitadhanang ako’y isilang sa mundo
Upang sa araw-araw ay siyang makapiling mo
Upang ngayon at kailanman
Ikaw ay mapaglingkuran, hirang
Bakit labis kitang mahal
Pangalawa sa Maykapal
Higit sa ‘king buhay

REFRAIN:

Hanggang doon magwawakas
Pag-ibig kong sadyang wagas
Ngayon at kailanman

REFRAIN:
Sa bawat araw ang pag-ibig ko sa ‘yo liyag
Lalong tumatamis, tumitingkad
Bawat kahapon ay daig nitong bawat ngayon
Na daig ng bawat bukas

Labis kitang mahal (ngayon at kailanman)

Tangi sa maykapal (ngayon at kailanman)
Ngayon at kailanman.

Here is the English translation. It doesn’t do justice to the original, though.

Now and Forever
I promise to love you
Now and Forever
You will never be alone
Now and Forever
In difficult times or in comfort
Have faith, you will never be alone, darling
 I will be there, always
You can depend on me, always
Now and Forever

Might you be the reason, that I was fated
To be born into this world?
So that everyday, I can be with you
So that now and forever
I can serve you, my chosen one?
Why do I love you so much?
Next to God,
More than my life

[Refrain]

With every day, my love for you, sweetheart
Grows even sweeter, brighter
Each present is always better than each yesterday
And each tomorrow is even better than today

I can only forget you
If the sun and the stars can no longer be seen,
If the world stops turning, and doesn’t move anymore,
But only a day after the world ends
Only until then will my pure love end

Now and Forever

[Refrain]

I love you so much (now and forever)
Next only to God (now and forever)
Now and forever.

The song is better heard, though. Here it is, as sung by Basil Valdez.
