Grateful Project Day 96: Karate

I am grateful to karate. The kids have been training in karate since they were 5 years old. They started in the AAK toddler karate class and they both continued to take it up as a sport. During the school year, they train only on weekends. But during summer vacation, they train more often, maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Karate not only keeps them physically fit, but also gives them discipline and strength of character. At the end of every training session, they recite their dojo kun or code of ethics: Strive for perfection of character. Defend the path of truth. Foster the spirit of effort. Honor the principles of etiquette. Guard against impetuous courage. These are things to remember, not only in karate, but more so in life. I am grateful that karate has strengthened these traits in them, aside from giving them confidence and knowledge in martial arts.Image
